Yadro strengthens its position in the data center market: acquired a stake in KB Borey to develop engineering solutions

Yadro, a Russian developer of servers and data storage systems (part of IKS Holding), announced a strategic move — acquisition of a 38% stake in KB Borey, specializing in the production of air conditioning systems for data centers. The amount of the deal was not disclosed, but its goal is obvious: Yadro's entry into the data center engineering infrastructure market through the integration of ready-made solutions.

Strategy through partnership

The purchase of a stake in KB Borey was the start of Yadro's new business line. The company, founded in 2017, holds unique patents, including air recuperator technology for freecooling in outdoor mini data centers. By 2025, Borey plans to obtain three new patents for modular container-type data centers, which will strengthen Yadro's competitive advantage in the engineering solutions segment.

Ownership structure and management

After the transaction, Yadro (through Kns Group LLC) became the second largest co-owner of KB Borey with a 38% stake. The main shareholder remains Ratmir Troshin (47%), who heads the development of the new direction. The company's production and research facilities are based in Moscow, and its authorized capital, unchanged since 2017, amounts to RUB 5 million.

Technology and distribution

KB Borey is engaged not only in cooling systems, but also in the production of electronic components, communication equipment and solutions for modular data centers. Since December 2023, Merlion has been the exclusive distributor of the company's products, which ensures wide coverage of the B2B market. The portfolio includes inter-row air conditioners, cabinet solutions, free-cooling chillers and self-contained mini data centers up to 12 kW.

Financial dynamics

The company shows steady growth: revenue for 2023 reached 43.1 million rubles, up 205% compared to 2022. Net profit has remained stable over the past three years, and the only loss was recorded only in 2019.

Expert evaluation

Alexander Kalinin, investor and initiator of the Sovereign Mobile Initiative, said: “The deal with Yadro is part of our strategy to develop promising IT projects. We are confident in Borey's potential and are preparing new solutions for the market”.

Reliability and prospects

KB Borey does not participate in government procurement and avoids litigation, which confirms its reputation as a stable partner. Integration with Yadro opens up opportunities for creating integrated solutions in the field of energy efficiency and data center infrastructure, which is especially relevant in the context of growing demand for domestic technologies.

This partnership highlights the trend towards vertical integration in the Russian IT industry, where key players are strengthening their competencies through synergy with highly specialized developers. For the hosting and data center industry, this means the emergence of new technological solutions that can improve the reliability and energy efficiency of infrastructure.
