Moscow implements AI in urban planning

Moscow authorities are embarking on an innovative project in the field of urban development. The Department of Urban Planning Policy of the capital has initiated the creation of an artificial intelligence system for the automated design of the development of urban areas. The budget of the project is 23.7 million rubles.

Project Features

The new system will utilize:

  • Generative algorithms for area planning;
  • Evolutionary computing;
  • Machine learning technologies.

The AI system is designed to create optimal development plans taking into account:

  • Conservation areas;
  • Historic sites;
  • Social infrastructure;
  • Current urban planning regulations.

Technical aspects

The desktop version of the software will require:

  • Quad-core processor;
  • 16 GB of RAM;
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or higher graphics card.

The software will support:

  • Data import in GeoJSON and CSV formats;
  • Integration with Unix systems;
  • Documentation via Swagger UI.

Current status

The tender for the development of the system was announced on December 25, 2024. Acceptance of bids closed on January 13, 2025, but the contractor has not yet been determined - the process of selecting the contractor is still ongoing.

This initiative represents a significant step in the digitalization of urban planning and can significantly optimize Moscow's urban development processes.
